Unfortunately, the queries are correct.  DLZ must determine where the 'zone cut' is before looking up other data.  This means it must check if the zone is in the zone table, if not strip the first label and repeat.  The procedure must be followed until a match is found, or the last label is checked.

This same procedure is followed when using 'native bind' with its in-memory DB.  But since it's in memory its a lot faster.  If you can, the BDB-HPT driver would provide better performance.

Why are you getting queries on your authoritative name server for zone's you don't serve?  Running a server that is both caching and authoritative simultaneously is discouraged, even with native bind.

the reason I asked is, a query for an IPv6 zone I don't serve takes too long to answer. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong,  because this doesn't look right. Running

And then again for my local domain. And then it gives up. In the meanwhile, it took over 10s and host gave up.

So, I really must be doing something wrong! Any ideas?
