Dig only returns results after multiple attempts (named-sdb using dlz)

I have configured bind-sdb with dlz, however running dig on any of the
zones sometimes returns results most of the times returns servfail status.
There is nothing in the logs that indicate that any error occurred whiles
running query. I have configured to use PostgreSQL database over pg-pool
for load balance and replication with two name servers in different data
centers.

Any idea what could be causing this.
