DLZ, Bind 9.9, FreeBSD 9.2 postgresql 9.3, bind fails to start

Under the above configuration Bind refuses to start but provides no 
error messages.

this is my DLZ config from named.conf:

dlz "postgres zone" {
         database "postgres 2
         {host=(hostip) dbname=(dbname) user=(user) password='(password)'}
         {select zone from dns.zones where zone='$zone$' and active='t'}
         {select ttl, type, mx_priority, case when type = 'TXT' then 
'\"; || data || '\"' else data end, resp_person, serial, refresh, 
retry,expire, minimum from dns.v_dlz
_records where zone='$zone$' and host='$record$'}
         ";
};

If I comment out the DLZ config Bind starts normally.

Can anyone point to anything I'm doing wrong?
