Question about behavior when settings invalid IP in domain A record

Hi Guys,

A question, that I don't know if this if by RFC, or but.
I had the need to block a domain website, so i just set un invalid IP 
for the A record for that domain, but emails i wanted to work as normal.
What happened after two days, i noticed that the domain was not working 
and I was having a NXDOMAIN when querying.

DOMANIN.TLD IN A 185.99.65.7777

I inserted that exact invalid IP.
It is by design by RFC?
