As an update Rich.  

I found the culprit for the "Email replies to this post" question.  It was a
switch setting that I kept reading and missing.  "Allow Email-Notification
for anonymous Posters:" was set to off.

Your hint gave me a good direction on the subscription to the forums.  It's
obviously a list that Phorum posts all its entries to.  I'll start looking
in that direction and see if I can come up with an answer.

Any help you can give me by looking around a little more would be
appreciated.  We're slow but we're steady :>
