Well put! I have seen quite a few posts about people wanting to recreate
SME in their own image, but I'm more concerned with support for what we
already have. There has been alot of discussion about what should be
added or removed, and what platform to run on, but worrying about
changes like this seems to be premature. There has also been discussion
as to what steps need to be taken, even to what version numbers to use.
It seems to me that the *first* thing that needs to be done is to
establish a new support base for what we already have. (BTW, Jeff, I
think you guys are doing a fine job in trying to pull this together!)

All of the discussion of adding features to a new version makes me think
that some may have lost sight of what we have, and that one of the
strengths is that it is a secure base package that is easy to setup and
manage but that we can customize easily to our *individual* needs.
Another of those strengths is the development community. We don't need a
server package that tries to be all things to all people, not when we
have people like Darrell May, Dan Brown, Abe Loveless, Greg Zartman,
Charlie Brady (if he can still help us) etc. the list goes on and on. My
5.6 server meets my needs completely, thanks to contribs by people in
that list and many others.
