Those options are assigned for IETF standards. There are two current abuses: - self-assigned (squatted) codepoints - widescale deployment of experimental codepoints See draft-ietf-tcpm-experimental-options-06 for a solution to the latter, and a summary of examples of both. These have been *entirely* avoidable. The new method lowers the bar for experiments, though they should still not be deployed into the wild without monitoring. Joe
