Well, I think "trivial" might be stretching it a tad, but I do 
generally agree with your point.  Even for talented hackers, there is 
always challenge in creating high quality solutions as opposed to 
good-enough solutions.  I hope someone will think it a worthy thing to 
work on.

There is also the issue that developing and testing AoE may require an 
investment/donation in hardware, so there's also that part of the 
effort.

I'm tempted to hack on it myself because it seems like fun and would be 
novel, but I think the tcp code might be more strategic.  I might look 
into seeing how much the necessary hardware to develop AoE would cost, 
however (in case that is an impediment we can remove).
