Hi,

query on etherboot-users did not provoke any answers, to trying here
hoping for better luck.

Booting from an etherboot floppy or CD (which works in exactly two
machines on a homogenous network) results in the following on the
rest:

Loading Rom image...................
Etherboot 5.4.1 (GPL) http://etherboot.org
Drivers: EEPRO100 Images: NBI ELF PXE Exports: PXE
Protocols: DHCP TFTP
Relocating _text from:[0010420, 000236d0) to [0feecd50, 0ff00000)
Boot from

Only some 1-9 characters get printed from the last line, then the
computer hangs. Its own PXE stack in the NIC ROM works okay, but I
need a "removable" solution. Does the above ring any bells? I
checked the source and don't understand how a putchar loop can fail
like that... I'd be glad to provide any more information deemed
necessary. The image is from the ROM-o-matic with NIC
eepro100:82562em, zdsk output; the machine is Intel Xeon 1.6 GHz,
kernel output from the eepro100 driver is as follows:

    eepro100.c:v1.09j-t 9/29/99 Donald Becker http://www.scyld.com/network/eepro100.html
    eepro100.c: $Revision: 1.36 $ 2000/11/17 Modified by Andrey V. Savochkin <[email protected]> and others
    eth0: OEM i82557/i82558 10/100 Ethernet, 00:02:55:7F:2A:3D, IRQ 169.
Board assembly 000000-000, Physical connectors present: RJ45
Primary interface chip i82555 PHY #1.
    General self-test: passed.
    Serial sub-system self-test: passed.
    Internal registers self-test: passed.
    ROM checksum self-test: passed (0x04f4518b).

I'd be very grateful for any insight.
