GPXE in BIOS - no success

Ok, I give up, I need help.

1) Chainloading gPXE via the original PXE in the BIOS works OK (actually using ISCSI to boot Windows XP). NIC Via-Rhine 1106:3065.

2) Animated by the functional chainloading I flashed the BIOS with a binary-rom from rom-o-matic.

3) the first try to boot simply hung with a "gpxe (PCI 00:12:0) starting execution". No DHCP-request can be seen on the dhcp-server. The machine seems to be hung totally.

4) during the second try to boot I used crtl-b to access the CLI. Issuing a "dhcp net0" gets all relevant dhcp data (ip, gw, dns, next-server, filename="", root-path="iscsi:....", etc).

Question 1: Why doesn´t gpxe issue a dhcp-request w/o forcing it via CLI?
Question 2: Am I missing out on something obvious??

Any replies and pointers most welcome.
