It is odd that you can't even create a partition. Have you tried to
attach the iscsi disk from Windows/Linux/something else and tried to
create a partition from there? Is the same target perhaps attached
somewhere else, which could make it read-only?
As far as I know you can use an iscsi target for storage in ESXi 4.
Windows would think you install it to a local disk, which would
eliminate the need for gPXE in your case.
