I would be very happy for this to be merged.  It arrived just after the 
branch was created, and has settled down now after a few updates.

I'd rather be able to direct people towards the stable builds and get 
them to use/test those, but I also understand that you've got to draw 
the line somewhere if you want to stabilise.
