Startup error -- file emem.c

Greetings,

Win 98SE machine - 64 Meg mem, 200MHz

I used to run Ethereal 0.10.something no problem but
haven't run it in a long time.

Installed Winpcap 3.1 - ran OK
Installed 0.99.0 OK but get error msg when I run it.
Comes up in a DOS window:
Err file emem.c: line 252: assertion failed: (ret ==
TRUE)
Press any key to exit

Found an old 0.8.18 version on my machine -- installed
it - runs OK
Any ideas????
