Impending EB-lite alpha

It's that time. Six months of (intermittent) work, over 30,000 lines of code, more bugs squashed than I'd care to mention, but we're here. EB-lite, with the ebqt front end by Chris Boyle, is ready for an alpha release. The web and CVS servers are being moved around this week (for the last time, hopefully), but the moment that's done, we'll be releasing an alpha tarball and possibly some binary packages for general consumption. Supported protocols now include AIM, ICQ, MSN, and IRC. Group chat is implemented in the core but not the user interface, and so is not yet usable. Full account and buddy list management is in place, and multiple accounts on one protocol are fully supported. The only user interface is written in Qt, the toolkit used for KDE - if you have KDE, you have the libraries. The core is ANSI/POSIX only, and should present no problems. Who this is for: - Power users who want a peek at how things are shaping up, and/or are willing to put up with alpha-release software in exchange for new features such as the core/UI split - Developers to have a crack at, especially those who have been put off before now by the lack of a user interface to test with, or the changing nature of the core comms protocol - The incorrigibly fool-hardy :^) Who this is NOT for: - Anyone who's expecting to get this out of the box and have a working, completely smooth, bug-free Everybuddy with all the features of the old one and new ones besides. We're getting there, but not yet... Oh yes, and REPORT THOSE BUGS! If you do get unexpected behaviour of any sort from either the core or the user interface, tell us! I'm hoping to get Rob to set up an EB-lite section of the EB Bugzilla installation, but until then, email the situation, if possible how to reproduce the bug, and a backtrace from gdb.
