proxies heeeeelp!!!

Hi, I am a new member of EB and I really need your help, I just moved to the university's halls and I am forced to use the network, with all the constrictions that this means. I use Linux RH 7.2 and I want to connect back to the world, but the uni doesn't allow me too. It's kind of strange, but even though MSN works fine in windows, I can't seem to make anything else work for my linux. Aaaaaargh I have tried Gaim, amsn, kmess and now I turn to you guys! I read that EB supports HTTP proxies , but it doesn't seem to work for me. Everytime I try to get online it just says, chatroom not found, closed connection with socket 7, and I don't need to be an expert to figure out what this means... Anyway guys pleaaaaaaase is there anything you can say to help me out on this? By the way the uni does not allow SSL connections, so please don't tell me that EB works also with HTTPS... Anyway if there is no hope from EB, do you know of any other program that might do for me? Or any other way? I need all the help you can give me and any feedback is really appreciated ... these restrictions are just driving me crazy! And to think that universities are places where there is "freedom" of mind and expression.... I'll try to remember that next time... Thanks again .... All the best, Marina
