I could play around with some perl as a proof of concept if you like. My idea for the latter two is that a wrapper perl script would execute the backend under GDB, and watch for problems, along with this, it would have a log of the session from the backend's STDOUT/STDERR channels. When the program crashes, it would then get a full backtrace, store that in a logfile and restart the server. Some hooks in the GUI for the wrapper could be set up too so that if it crashes, the GUI can be told to reconnect, and alert the user to the problem and display the log with instructions on where to send it. +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Stuart Longland stuartl at longlandclan.hopto.org | | Brisbane Mesh Node: 719 http://stuartl.cjb.net/ | | I haven't lost my mind - it's backed up on a tape somewhere | | Griffith Student No: Course: Bachelor/IT (Nathan) | +-------------------------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/
