If you're looking at Gtk2, have a look at the ayttm-gtk2 project that 
I'd started (it's in ayttm cvs).  I don't have time to work on it, but 
it's only a shell that needs to be connected to a backend.  Maybe you 
can make it work.

Then again, maybe do it using libglade.  I've tried libglade, and it is 
far easier to program.
