broken libtool stuff

Recently it came to pass that I am no longer able to build cleanly from the
subversion source. After much investigation, it appears that the version of
libtool on my machine is not compatible with more recent versions of
autoconf. I believe I can fix this by updating my libtool to a more recent
version, but I'm not sure what to do about this long-term. I'm trying to
determine when this changed, at the moment. Oddly enough, Karine has the same
version as me but doesn't have any problems, so I am confused...
In any case,  with a more recent libtool all is good, so I'll stop whining
for now.
