I would suggest doing this:

cvs co fire -r Fire-1-0-Update

or

cd fire
cvs update -dP -r Fire-1-0-Update

After that if you do a cvs update it will stay on the Fire-1-0-Update 
branch.

If you later want to go back to TOT, use

cvs update -dPA
