We need a sample to diagnose this further. When you get the "spinning beach-ball of death", open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and type "sample Fire 5". It will run for a bit over 5 seconds, and then give you a filename. Send that file in. Then we can start to figure out what is going on.
