Thanks for the detailed explanation. I already make heavy use of the 
buddy icon menu in my chat windows. However, when I tried out this 
other chat program (might have been GAIM, not sure), I rather liked 
that instantaneous feeling of history.

Would it be possible to just grab the tail of a file? Maybe the last, I 
dunno, 4k or something, and display that? Might be a bit faster than 
rendering the whole thing.

Really, even if it were simply the last message sent, that would 
probably be enough.

Part of the reason I'd like this is that I use Fire on three different 
Macs, and sync 'em all up via Synchronize Pro X. Thus, knowing what 
happened on another machine that I might have left online is pretty 
handy.

If, however, this is a major architecture change, I think more than 
enough support already exists to view recent chats that it's not 
necessary at all. Just would be a nicety of interface.

And also, Graham, thanks for all your hard work, and that of everyone 
else. Fire is one of the programs that I use to make my PC-using 
friends insanely jealous. It's just so much cleaner and better than 
Trillian or GAIM. :)
