Looks as though it's NOT doing the same thing at work in the sidebar
configuration. So, the "clunking" when we try to type after clicking
a user's icon to switch to their tab just has to be fixed in the
drawer configuration, it appears.

But I've just remembered why I stopped using sidebar on my laptop. I
think I found somewhere a setting that made the width of the sidebar
change dynamically, and it keeps changing width for no apparent
reason as I mouse around, even when the list of users and their
statuses isn't changing, and even when the width is already adequate.
I can no longer find the "change width dynamically" checkbox I seem
to remember seeing before; can someone point me to it?
