This seems to be working, but one interesting side effect is that,
when I choose "Add Buddy..." after getting a message from the user in
question, hopping over to the "Accounts" tab and unchecking "In Buddy
List," Fire suddenly thinks the user has logged off! Since the user
wasn't in my buddy list to begin with, this is especially odd. Fire
then complains if I try to respond to the user, saying they're
offline and asking if I want to send anyway. And, I get the untrue
notice in the chat window, "Sending offline messages, they will be
received when the user connects again."

It's a relatively odd situation, so probably shouldn't be anyone's
top priority, but since that "In Buddy List" checkbox is there, it
might as well not behave so idiosyncratically. :-)

Thanks again for the suggestion, Graham!
