Crashing?

I am having an odd issue where a previously fine recent TOT built  
could no longer launch. I tried a new build, with with no change. The  
program draws the Buddies window with the conversation browser set to  
half wait... waits a few seconds... and then seems to quit without so  
much as an error message. The console never comes up. Any ideas?  
Tomorrow, I'll start digging through the prefs, if nobody has ideas.
