Fire doesn't notice when I've been disconnected

I've noticed a number of times that I'll get disconnected from Yahoo! and Fire won't notice. It will show me as connected, and show the state of my buddies at the time I was disconnected, but everyone else will show me as offline, and I don't get anything from Yahoo! until I tell Fire to disconnect and reconnect. I'm using Fire 1.5.3 although I've seen it with earlier versions as well. It happens on both my Aluminum PowerBook G4 and Sawtooth, both on my home network and at work. Both computers are running 10.3.9, although it's happened on earlier versions of the OS as well. Any ideas?
