Settings for Bonjour

I am quite new to the world of Mac's and I am having troubles getting  
Fire or Proteus to replace ichat....
I can see all my colleagues on the net in both tools, I can write to  
them. However, I do not receive any answer from them.
I imagine this must be that I have set incorrect identifying  
informations but so far all my attempts have failed.

Is there a document or a place that explains exactly the values I  
must use for either or both tools?

By the way, this is on Tiger with all the published updates applied.
