Re: any truth to the rumor?

Eric has not worked much on Fire for a least the past year, and look at 
the development we have gone through.  Fire is GPL, which means, that 
the Apple cannot do a damned thing about it.  A lot of the code has 
multiple copyright holders, and so Apple can't claim ownership over 
code that is copyrighted by people with no affiliation to them.  The 
absolute worst that Apple can do is to prevent any of its employees 
from working on it.

Fire will live on as long as people continue to work on it.  If for 
some reason sourceforge refuses to host it (not like this is a 
possibility), we can simply move it to another site.  Open source 
software is very resilient to people trying to get rid of it.  Just 
look at DeCSS:  css_unscramble.c

you have.

Lastly, I doubt Apple would want to claim ownership of Fire since it 
contains the work of some reverse engineering.  This could damage 
relationships with some companies responsible for the IM protocols 
(except irc, and Jabber).

Fire will continue to live on.
