The current official Mac version (2.5.3) kicks me off, and sees the
same buddies online that I had before.

scs.msg.yahoo.com resolves to scs-dcn{a-h}.msg.yahoo.com (where {a-h}
is a glob pattern), which resolves to 216.155.193.128-216.155.193.187.
Fire is currently connected to 216.155.193.179.

Which server are you using (check with netstat, probably)?

You could try changing the server it uses in ~/Library/Application
Support/Fire/Accounts.plist. Mine says "scs.msg.yahoo.com".
