Connecting to AIM too often?

The last several days I've been having a lot of problems with AIM 
thinking I'm connecting "too often" to the servers... even on the 
very first connection attempt of the day.

I'm using Fire 0.99.1 on Mac OS X 10.3.2 on a dual-G4 Power Mac and a 
12" PowerBook G4, and the same problems are occurring with both 
systems.

On my desktop machine, I went so far as to discard all of Fire's 
plist files and start over. Something is causing most or all of my 
buddies to be listed as "blocked" by AIM. I've now laboriously 
unblocked them all three times, one by one, both in Fire and in AIM 
4.6.

I've also recently had problems that relate to having "too many" 
buddies, though Fire's error message on the subject usually gives a 
seemingly backwards count, saying I'm limited to 224 but I have 209, 
or the like.

Trying to connect via TOC seems to work, though most of the buddies 
are greyed out... apparently that means they're blocked. Reconnecting 
after that with Oscar worked briefly, showing just a few buddies. I 
tried unblocking everyone, disconnecting, waiting several minutes, 
and reconnecting, but now I can't get back in.

I can generally connect with AIM 4.6 or iChat AV 2.1 public beta, if 
I wait a while after having last tried Fire.

Meanwhile, my MSN buddy list seems to have dozens of copies of each 
person, though none show up as being online. And of course, as far as 
I know there's no Yahoo-compatible version of the 0.99 series yet.

Any suggestions?
