Yup... signing on via Fire was causing all of my buddies to be 
blocked for real, not just seeming that way in Fire. I was having to 
use the AIM client to unblock each of them.

Using 0.99.2, my services seem to be "Online" but after several 
minutes with no buddies appearing in AIM, I got the alert that I was 
connecting too often, and needed to wait several minutes before 
trying again.

None of my MSN buddies are appearing online right now, but it's not 
out of the realm of possibility that none of them ARE online right 
now. It is, after all, a holiday, according to some employers in the 
US. :-) At least I no longer see dozens of duplicates of these 
buddies in my offline list.

I do seem to be connecting successfully to Yahoo and ICQ.

Having tossed most of my preferences files, I'm starting over with 
window positions with all of my buddies. This is making it clear that 
the problem of Fire opening its first window for each given user in 
exactly the same place has never been fixed. It really needs to be. 
Fire should stagger each window position by, say, 20 pixels right and 
down, as it opens new default windows. Adding a "Tile Windows" 
command would be a great idea, but at the very least, Fire should not 
by default keep opening new windows completely covering each other. 
(Also just discovered "Use as default window size" command. NICE!)
