Definitely one you can suppress, please. There are NO carriers in Europe (and probably most other GSM markets outside north america) that charge for reception of SMS. I'd also strongly urge against the suggestion someone else made of automatically adding a +1 in the box for mobile phone numbers. That's the international code for the US, and of scant use to those in most of the GSM markets around the world. For example, for my GSM phone here in the UK, I'd have to send a text to +44 7973 .... Fire is, at the moment, an extremely international messaging application, with all the localisations and built in translation support. It should strongly resist filling in defaults or popping up messages that can't be suppressed if they relate only to one country in which it's used - and a country, at that, where texting is likely to be much less of a useful tool than in Europe. The AOL UK service, incidentally doesn't seem to support sending SMS, other than by a pre-pay system at Keyword: SMS; but sending from ICQ works a treat. When people have been sending messages in the US, it would be interesting to know which clients they're using and the exact syntax; I'm curious to know if the AIM client behaves differently with regard to SMS when, for example, you use a UK-registered name. There have long been peculiar interconnect issues between the US and other GSM networks with regard to SMS; I have some american friends with whom I've only ever been able to exchange SMS when they're roaming in Europe.
