Oh, that's too bad, I was just about to suggest that :-s
Why would you believe there is going to be any confusion? Good design
can fix that easily, like having large, service/document icons for
conversations drawer and small user icons for the buddy list in group
chat, having a light background colour for one of the lists, or
something else.
I would go for the drawer, but that's just my 2¢.
