Hi Cat.

I suppose all the icons in the dock has colours?  If they are 
black/white as well, click on the System Preferences. and then on 
Universal Access. Finally under Seeing tab there's a box on the right 
hand side. if  it says" Set Display to Color",  click on that button so 
ut changes to "Set Display to Grayscale".
