Re: 2-3 second freezes (esp when using sounds) + chat window size issue

A few ideas for these problems which I've found helpful:

Sounds -- AIFF are uncompressed, so they load quickly, but if they're 
large, it can be a bit of a drag while they're read off disk. I've had 
excellent results with 16 bit, 22 khz monaural AIFF files in Xounds, 
Fire and other programs. They load quickly, sound quite good on my 
AiBook's internal speakers, and take up little disk space.

As for chat window size, there's an option to have chat windows vanish 
when you hit "send". I use this feature most of the time on my 
Powerbook, as it keeps the screen clear when I'm not chatting or when 
somebody's busy typing a response. I can always bring up a chat log if 
I've forgotten what they said.

Also, obviously, hiding the toolbar helps a great deal, as does 
shrinking fonts, etc... (I used TinkerTool to set my system fonts to 
10-11 pt. rather than 11-13 pt. fonts, which has saved me a great deal 
of title bar space on all my apps.)

I hope this addresses some of your issues or at least helps you get by 
until new features are implemented to fix them.
