In my case, the checkboxes are _not_ dimmed.  I can check them on or 
off.
I'm fairly positive that the pw is correct, i've entered and reentered 
on all boxes to confirm correct entry on each.  And verified no spare 
spaces (i remember that being a problem with buddy names in the past).
I'm also fairly positive that the server is using SSL as I'm able to 
connect via ssl on the other two machines.  The problem is specific to 
the home desktop.
I'll be looking for anything useful in the Fire Console and Console.app 
when I get home to take a look tonight.
