Okay, I just installed 1.0.1, thought "this is cool" and put in my Yahoo, ICQ, AIM and MSN information. I am then shown a huge assortment of buddy lists, with little rhyme or reason. Some resemble lists I've had in the various programs (and groups), but there are buddies from mixed services within the groups, which is so confusing. So, I start organizing, deleting some people here and there, removing, consolidating and creating groups, putting the 17 addresses I have for one person on 4 different services into one master "this person" list, etc. One note -- for some reason, all of my ICQ buddies showed up in a group called "Default Group", which also included all of the people who were also in my Yahoo "Blocked Buddies" list. (Why this "Blocked Buddies" list shows up or was even created, I don't know. I blocked them for a reason. I don't want to know they exist.) So, I'm reorganizing everything, and then Fire crashes. Okay, I say to myself, I guess this thing's still a bit unstable, so I'll just wait a few months and then give it another shot. In the meantime, I was in a conversation with my fiance, so I load up Yahoo Messenger. My buddy list is totally screwed up. Groups have been removed, groups have been added, names have been removed (that I did NOT delete while within Fire), and there are multiple copies of several names in several different groups. That's not the worst part. I can't edit anything. Period. I can't rename groups, delete groups, edit groups, move groups. I can't add buddies, delete buddies, move buddies. The only thing I've been able to do was to add a new group, but I can't make any changes to it now, nor can I add anyone or move anyone to this, or any other, group. I've deleted all of my preferences. No help. I reinstalled Yahoo Messenger. No help. I reinstalled Fire...now it gets even weirder. I'd deleted my Fire preferences (yea, great), so it's starting from scratch again. I put in JUST my Yahoo Messenger information. The "current" list comes up, with the additions of the "Default Group" (my blocked buddies) and the "Blocked Buddies" group (yep, two groups of the same people...why?!?). So now, I go about reformatting the groups and buddies, and add in my fiance, although I know there are other addresses I've lost forever now. Strangely enough, people and groups I delete just reappear after a moment at the bottom of the list. I try deleting them again, they just reappear, so I ignore that, and go about fixing my list. Then to test it, I quit Fire and re-run Yahoo Messenger. No changes. It's still just as screwed up (and uneditable) as it was before. I'm scared to death to run ICQ or AIM and see what happens. So that's where I'm at. I can't edit my Yahoo list, and at this point, I'd really like to know why, and how to go about fixing it. Please don't tell me to "just use Fire". I'm less inclined to trust it now than before I tried it, and having these other people float in my list refusing to be deleted irks me severely. Any suggestions appreciated. Fixes greatly appreciated. -- Victor E Aldridge III mailto:simplymtg-/[email protected] Simply Magic Premier Events http://www.geocities.com/simplymtg/ ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: GNOME Foundation Hackers Unite!
