merging toads simulation speedups?

Hi,

We have some pull-requests by toad waiting to be reviewed and merged
which speed up simulations enough that it=E2=80=99s actually viable to simu=
late
networks on the scale of the current userbase.

It would be cool if someone here could take up those pull-requests,
review them and get them merge-able.

If you=E2=80=99re up for it =E2=80=94 just go for it and tell us!
