"But the fact remains, if you alink to child porn, *you are inlining
child porn *images* on a page that is ONE CLICK from the Web Interface*.
If you don't see a problem with that, I'll have to oppose your site
being on it. But I suspect you will see the problem."
I think Toad has a point and I can see a simple solution. If you recall,
someone suggested generating two versions of the index - with/without
activelinks.
The web interface could link only to the (uncensored) text-only version,
which could then itself link to the (uncensored) alink version WITH A
SUITABLE DISCLAIMER ("Caveat Lector"). In this way, the Freenet Project
can avoid putting a lot of people off, and Conrad can avoid any
legal/ideological issues from filtering of any kind.
On a related note, it might be possible to allow users to vote
anonymously for favourite freesites. A simple example would be "up/down"
links next to each site, which increase/decrease its popularity rating
and consequently its position on the index page - of course you would
want to automate this. There are a number of reasons for doing this, but
one obvious advantage is that content which is considered offensive by
most Freenetters is not so prominent, while Conrad can still claim not
to be personally responsible for content filtering.
