data structure

I have a question for you. 
I don't understand the structure of data that contain the Pluto's messages. 
In particular, 
 
1. what is the "lenfld" field  in the pbs_stream? Is it the lenght of the pbs? 
So,why my KDbg debbugger show it as a string? 
 
2. In the descriptor of a pbs there is the field "fields" that is a pointer to 
an array of field's descriptor. where is the information about the number of 
fields of the array?
