-pre6 fails on my test box, RCH problem

Ok, at least two bugs somewhere in here. I am trying to use the
- -pre6 (maybe at the FTP site by now, check in the development section)
and find that "make oldmod" fails (if it's obsolete then it should
never try to run...). Looking closer the failure it dies on is the
compiler loosing it, the problems are WAY earlier.

The second problem is that somone spaced a makefile vs. SHELL
variable and needs to put some {} in the right place, as we keep
getting "RCH" rather then say i386 or z800 as it should be.

Next looking at the output more I find that the patching system
fails to error out as it should when this starts happening:

...
patching file net/ipv4/af_inet.c
Hunk #1 succeeded at 1179 (offset 160 lines).
patching file net/ipsec/Makefile.ver
grep: /usr/src/linux/arch/RCH/defconfig: No such file or directory
+ cp -a /usr/src/linux/arch/RCH/defconfig /usr/src/linux/arch/RCH/defconfig.orig
cp: cannot stat `/usr/src/linux/arch/RCH/defconfig': No such file or directory
+ chmod u+w /usr/src/linux/arch/RCH/defconfig
...

Is is an example of "RCH" failure output.

So this needs some fixing up.
