checking the /var/adm/syslog.log or i guess its /var/adm/messages in 
RHES or have a look at /etc/syslog.conf to see where syslogd logs should 
be a first step in analyzing of what is going wrong

The "/etc/shells" problem mentioned by Gregory, will most probably be 
logged to syslog.log

users working.  The exact same ftpaccess and configuration (of course I

The guest user, no matter what I do, will not logon:
