KUDOS are indeed a test-currency that is completely free. You can simply 
create a bank account at https://bank.demo.taler.net/ and you get 100 
KUDOS just for inventing a unique user name ;-).

As for wallets, there are various ones available, see 
https://wallet.taler.net/. You can even get a command-line wallet by 
compiling git.taler.net/wallet-core.git! The WebExtension is just 
convenient, but not mandatory.

It is unlikely that most E-mail providers support GNS name resolution 
today, and I'm sure letsencrypt does not, so while you can setup domain 
e-mail, it will not work with regular e-mail users that use DNS name 
resolution. Instead of using a CA like letsencrypt, you could put TLSA 
records into your GNS zone.
