At the time I did my study of Kad (an implementation of Kademlia for
eMule), it had one million simultaneous DHT nodes, plus firewalled
users that were not part of the DHT proper.  At that time, Gnutella
had around 1 million users total.

The Azureus BitTorrent client also has an implementation of Kademlia,
used for decentralized tracking and other tasks.  Azureus has 1.4
million simultaneous users.

I'm not going to claim that all the kinks have been worked out yet,
but all in all I think Kademlia has passed the "wide deployment" test.
