The reason is that sha1 searching breaks QRP: 
http://basis.gnufu.net/gnufu/index.php/GnuFU_en#Network_model:_Intra-ultrapeer_QRP

The searches are routed by common keywords, and a sha1 by design doesn't 
contain common words.
