Even though I haven't been asked directly, I'd like to add the way Phex does 
segment selection. 

It allows the user to select four different strategies: 
* Rare parts first (default) - the segments with the least sources are 
downloaded first. 
* Priorize beginning - 50% of the segments are chosen from the beginning, 50% 
from the rarest parts. 
* Priorize beginning and end - as priorize beginning. 
* Random parts - choose at random. 

Rare parts first defaults to beginning, when no significant difference can be 
discovered betzween the segments and the file is streameable (most media 
files), otherwise it defaults to random.
