Hi,

I took a first glance on your transfer report, B.1: Utility based
reciprocation, and since I try to understand things in easy words most times,
I want to do that here, too.

Would it be correct if I stated your idea like the following:
"When asked to help by many people, I first help those from whom I expect to
get back the most"?

A peer first helps those peers of whom it knows that they provide the most in
return.

Do you include things like "has content which interests me" (aka 'I already
downloaded from him/her) into the equation?

= Spreading of utility information =

To include this in Gnutella: Could the leafs publish their receipts ("I
uploaded to that one" and "I downloaded from that one") to the Ultrapeer and
peruse the existing infrastructure that way? The UP could collect them and
push them back to the leafs, so a multi-step utility can be calculated for
neighbor leafs.

If that happens two times (leaf - up - leafs - other ups - leafs) this could
send each receipt to nodes around the scale of 32^2 (2 messages (up and
down) - each 3 UPs - each 32 leafs - each 2 more ups - each 32 leafs).

The utility receipts of the leafs should contain the UP, because that one is
more long-lived and thus better suited as a relay.

= Veryfying of utility information =

Does your scheme work, if people in the utility chain can drop out (and do so
very frequently)?

Would it then be better to just push the receipt information via the existing
inter-UP QRP infrastructre?

How does this affect pseudo-anonymity?

Best wishes,
Arne
