Most online criminality is made from a web browser... The real impact of the decision is that it was an attack against open-sourced software. Did the RIAA attack Philips the invention of the K7 or the CDROM or DVD ? Will it attack makers of non-valotile RAMs or storages ? Yes this has already happened (we already know the tax on computers and all storage medias). May be it's the way to go : an equitable tax on storage or network accesses. But shutting down a company for damages that were NOT performed by it, and against free software is really damaging for our future. We risk a lot more tomorrow when only giant private companies will control all the networks and what you can see, hear or read on them. The main danger is the concentration of medias and its very dangerous impact on public liberties (see for example the situation now in Italy or Russia or China). Free software is a public liberty against which we must actively defend ourself. Bad, the laws are progressively giving all the power to those few that have the most money and profit a lot from the work made by billions people, turning their voting right in organizations in right to decde laws and steal more people, and be the only ones that win in trials, and absolutely don't want public actions against what they can do. If only they were paying the artists or productors ! But they don't, and accumulate culture for only themselves, and raise the price for just the right of being informed and trained in education. Fair competition is dying everywhere in the world at an increased speed. And with it our dreams of a collective democracy where individuals are more important than rich virtual inhumane organizations with just a few leaders controlling and deciding everything for us. Let's resist. Let's affirm that free software is not against the development of business and decent humane work for everyone. If the music industry has suffered, it's not because of P2P, but only because majors have failed their negociation to fix their prices with online distributors and giant numeric networks that have built their power from millions of people connecting to the Internet, when all the rest had to support lower production costs. Apple has stolen much more to artists, and all other networks have followed, by stilling themselves and reselling products illegally. There's never been so much music trades than today, but most of this collected money never goes to pay the artists (and networks are lying on their effective sales). P2P file exchangers instead have promoted a lot the renewal of artists. The free software revolution has allowed the internet we know today and all those costly appliances that are built and sold all around the world. It should have promoted the quality of services and persons. But giant companies don't want self promotion of people, they just want consumers. this economic model will collapse on itself as it is not sustainable and the huge profits will starve. Let's come back to the evconomic vision of Ford: sharing profits is essential and generates more profitability for everyone, provided that the most powerful one does not capture and concentrate everything on himself. The only solid economies are those where small businesses proliferate. The concentration is a source of poverty for everyone and creates a bery huge risk of collapsing with severe damages, because it cannot adapt itself. The same is true for the preservation of life, or for health: it's not possible without diversity. And in diversity, there's a very wide place for free exchanges : the traded goods are less important than what people can do to help each other in their own objectives, and not everything must have a price to be equally profitable. We are a social world, we all are the base of fruitful societies.
