Be careful for your backups that you may have made in US. It might be usefu=
l
to backup the source jars in China, or Russia, or South Africa. Don't post
the java sources and specs in files within this group, or any document
created by Limewire (Limewire may even be forced to request the removal fro=
m
these documents that are copyrighted by itself and related to the
project...). The GPL does not protect against now enforceable legal orders.
don't ask this to LimeWire.

(Note that I have not contributed since very long to the project, so I am
too late on these sources, anyway it's been very long that I don't use
Limewire, I just use now torrents for downloading Linux isos or similar, or
prebuilt Windows images for which I have an unlimited subscribed licence). =

won't use any Gnutella P2P application now here in France since the adoptio=
n
of the "HADOPI" law, given the way that it is implemented, even if these
downloads are legal, because they just invetigate the protocols uses and th=
e
law assumes by default that the Gnutella protocol is for counterfeighting,
and does not require the proof of illegal files being transfered, and not
even the proof that we have licences for them. All French internet networks
are now spied with mandatory help of ISPs.

Well we don't risk billions of dollars like what occured recently in US. We
would just risk an email for now, but the problem is that these emails sent
by the HADOPI authority are used as proofs and there's no real way to defen=
d
and contest them, given what the ISPs are keeping in their log records.

Anyway my name is cited in limeWire sources only as a contributor of a sinc=
e
source code which is very generic (and used for completely unrelated
projects), and as a translator. I have never won any penny from my old
contributions, and I can't be liable for past discussions (the US court
accepted as proofs against LimeWire the content of their past emails on
their mailing lists on the the GDF group here, and misinterpreted them : I
am much less liable than those that have published research papers about
Gnutella and P2P, including Microsoft itself when it developed its own P2P
protocol for workgroups over the Internet which has benefited a lot from
Gnutella researches and).

I also really hope that the work by LimeWire on GUESS and UDP transfers wil=
l
not be lost (this has benefited to all companies programming instant
messengers and even for media resellers for TVoIP and VOD platforms) and it
has also helped the Internet to support its growth by the massive adoption
of NAT and their traversal without UPnP support (otherwise the IPv4
addresses would have been depleted since long).
