[core-dev] problem using direct connect to other limewire host

i'm developing a new extension to limewire which takes
special action if the user wants to download a certain
type of file.

to test this, I need to have a limewire host serve
files that either it, or another limewire host can
download, testing my extension. 

i've tried running 2 limewire hosts (both leaf nodes)
and manually adding the IP address of one in the other
host's connection window. The address appears in the
table for a moment, but then disappears w/o
explanation.

I've tried using direct connect to get a list of the
files shared by the 2nd host, but just get an error
message saying that direct connect didn't work for
some reason.

what can i do?
