The Azureus code has well-separated code and gui and is relatively easy to pick apart.  Furthermore it is well optimized wrt cpu and memory usage.

Most importantly it is actively maintained and updated, so when BitTorrent 2 comes out we can be pretty sure that Gudy will do the implementation for us.
